40 week appointment...baby by Monday??
We went to my 40 week appointment yesterday and there was still no change as far as progressing to labor goes, so the doctor said we needed to talk about our "exit strategy" for this guy. He said the normal protocol is to wait until 41 weeks and then if there is still no baby, then they induce. I asked him if he was concerned about the size of the baby and explained that the doctor we saw on Tuesday (there are 4 docs in the OB office) was concerned the baby was getting rather large. He said he wasn't as concerned since I birthed Logan at 8lbs 12oz okay. He sent me for a size estimate sonogram and said we'd go from there. So at that point, his thoughts were that we could wait a few more days and see if natural labor occurred. The sonogram showed an estimate of 8lbs 8oz...so not as huge as we were originally led to believe, but still a good size baby. However, while we were in the sonographer's office she decided to check some other vitals, including the level of amniotic fluid. She gave all of our results to the doctor and told us he would be in to talk to us about everything. So, after the doctor looked at the sono results he told us he didn't want to wait and thought we should get this baby out. He said he wanted to induce on Monday. So, we asked if it was the amniotic fluid that changed his mind or concerned him and he told us that we were on the low side of normal. So...not low yet, but headed there. Since that affects the chances of the cord to be compressed and can lead to low or no oxygen problems, he felt we should go ahead with the induction. As most of you know, we had to be induced with Logan 2 weeks early due to my blood pressure and we failed 2 inductions. We had a very emotional, long drawn out process to get Logan here...all worth it, but hard on all 3 of us. So, we have been very up front about really not wanting an induction this time if at all possible. However, sounds like this is medically necessary. So, we will check in to the hospital on Sunday night so they can start getting my body ready and then down to L&D at 8am on Monday to start me on pitocin. Please pray that everything goes well and that this is successful. So, hopefully, I'll be posting pics soon of the new little guy!! Hope you all have a good weekend!
